Anchorage's Far North Bicentennial Park is threatened by the proposed expansion of the Hilltop Downhill Ski Area. Proposition 1, if approved by the voters, will allow Hilltop to clear-cut an additional 60 acres of the park.
The map on this page shows in great detail that the area Hilltop would like to take over is not suitable for a downhill ski area.
It's hard to look at this map and see what benefits the expansion would bring to downhill skiers and snowboarders. Even after the expansion, the exciting skiing will be at Alpenglow and Alyeska.
